Baseball: Lakeside Lutheran goes 2-0 at Adams-Friendship Early Bird Invite to open season

ADAMS — Lakeside Lutheran’s baseball team opened the season by beating Gibraltar/Washington Island 8-0, also topping Lakeland Union 14-2 in five innings in Saturday’s Adams-Friendship Early Bird Invitational.

In the Gibraltar game, leadoff man Tyler Chopp went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. The Warriors broke the game open with five runs in the seventh, including run-scoring hits by Billy Gibson (two-run double), Hayden Schoenherr (single) and Philip Becraft (single).

Aidan Berg pitched 4 2/3 innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts, three walks to earn the decision. Becraft entered in relief, tossing 2 1/3 no-hit innings with two punch outs.

Against Lakeland, Nolan Meis allowed a pair of unearned runs on three hits while working all five innings. He fanned five and walked four.

Berg hit a pair of two-run shots in Lakeside’s 10-run fourth inning.
