Softball: Lakeside doubles up Columbus in regular-season finale, 4-2

COLUMBUS -- Lakeside Lutheran's softball team scored three first-inning runs in a 4-2 Capitol North victory at Columbus to conclude the regular season on Tuesday, May 14.

"We closed out the regular season with a nice win," Lakeside softball coach Matt Doering said. "The story of the game was good pitching, solid defense and a few timely hits."

Lakeside starter Kieghtan Rank tossed a three-hitter to earn the decision, allowing one earned run while striking out six and walking none.

"Kieghtan threw well and limited Columbus baserunners," Doering said.

The Warriors tallied four of their six hits in the first. Molly Muchka and Abby Meis both singled with one away. Kooper Killmon followed with an RBI double to left. With two outs, Kourtney Zech delivered a two-run single up the middle.

Lakeside (11-7, 3-5 in conference) tacked on a run in the fourth to lead 4-1 as Caitlin Lloyd singled with one away and came around on Paige Lester's triple to right.

Lakeside is the fourth seed in its Division 2 bracket and hosts fifth-seeded Whitewater in a regional semifinal on Tuesday, May 21.
