    Lake Mills' Shaun Scheel wins Jefferson Speedway late model season opener

    Lake Mills’ Shaun Scheel won the Jefferson Concrete 50-lap late model feature at Jefferson Speedway on Saturday.

    Scheel, who started on the outside of the front row, worked his way past Fort Atkinson’s Mark DePorter and into the lead by the third lap.

    Scheel held off repeated challenges from Jefferson’s Lucas Westenberg to win the season opener in front of a large, enthusiastic crowd. Westenberg finished second, Watertown’s Chris Chenoweth took third, Marshall’s Karter Stark finished fourth and Lake Mills’ Kyle Smith was fifth.

    Johnson Creek’s Nick Bruley claimed the 35-lap sportsman feature, winning a spirited battle with Watertown’s Kyle Chwala and Jefferson’s Mathew Thoma, who beat Chwala to the line for second with Chwala third Brodhead’s Robert Hansberry fourth and Watertown’s Mike Lambert fifth.

    Afton’s Devon Dixon won the International class 20-lap feature, with Jefferson’s Weston Strese taking second followed by Edgerton’s Mark English, Bonduel’s Timothy Higgins and Janesville’s Mark Dewey.

    Atron Brockhouse, of Shakopee MN, won the 20-lap Legend feature, battling Slinger’s Lincoln Cain and Elroy’s Andre Brontreger for most of the race. Cain finished second with Brontreger third and Jacob Stark fourth.

    Lake Mills’ Ace Oldenhoff won a thrilling Bandolero Feature, nipping West Salem’s Bentley Thompson at the line by less than a foot. Jefferson’s Teegan Wangsness was third and Lake Mills’ Axel Oldenhoff took fourth.

    Racing continues next Saturday night with a full program of Late Models, Sportsman, Hobby Stock, Bandit and Six Shooters.
