The Lake Oswego High School Black Student Union, in partnership with Respond to Racism, is hosting a screening of “The Hate U Give” at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Lake Oswego United Church of Christ.

After the movie screening, BSU and Respond to Racism will lead a discussion about the themes of the film and fundraise for future BSU events.

“We hope everyone can come, it’s open to the public. We’re really excited because it’s a good movie and showcases very important things,” said Braelyn Jenkins, Lakeridge High School BSU president, during the Feb. 5 school board meeting.

The novel the film is based on, “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas, was published in 2017 and inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. The film was released the subsequent year.
