If I Were Mayor contest submissions

In partnership with the Oregon Mayors Association, Mayor Joe Buck is excited to announce the “If I Were Mayor...” contest for Lake Oswego students in grades 4-12. This contest encourages students to share their creative and inspiring ideas about what they would do as a mayor.

The submission deadline is March 15, 2024, and you can find more information on the city of Lake Oswego website. The contest will have three categories: Posters (grades 4-5), Essays (grades 6-8), and Digital Media Presentations (grades 9-12).

For each category, a first-, second-, and third-place winner will be selected. First-place winners from Lake Oswego in each category will receive a gift card worth $150 to a local business. Second-place winners will receive $100, and third-place winners will receive $50.

This spring, winners will also be recognized at a joint Lake Oswego City Council and school district meeting. The three local winning entries will then be submitted to the statewide competition to win a grand prize of $500. The awards ceremony will occur during the OMA Annual Summer Conference at Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls. A Lake Oswego student won the statewide contest last year.

If you have any questions, contact Kim Vermillion at the city manager’s office at 503-675-3984.
