Timeline set for new gambling license applications
Des Moines, IA- The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission set the timeline Friday for new license applications. Radio Iowa reports that the process includes a gambling market study and proposals to do that are due August 15th. Applications for those interested in getting a license are due one month later.
Reynolds says new disaster relief housing grant programs are ready
(The Center Square) - Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said Monday two new housing programs to help victims of Iowa's recent storms are now open to applicants. The State Disaster Recovery New Housing Grant Program gives developers up to $1 million in grants to develop residential units for sale or rent in disaster-stricken areas, according to a news release from the governor. The Iowa Economic Development Authority oversees the program, which is only open in counties with a federal disaster declaration. ...
DNR seeks public input on wildlife administrative rule revisions
(Des Moines) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) seeks informal comments on administrative rules for Iowa wildlife and related programs. Executive Order 10 (EO10), signed by Governor Reynolds on January 10, 2023, requires all state agencies to identify which administrative rule chapters will be retained or rescinded. The EO10 process includes public engagement with the opportunity for input.
Speed Limit Lifted on Tuttle Lake
Estherville, IA (KICD) — The Emmet County Emergency Management Commission met yesterday and voted to remove the 5 mile per hour speed limit on Tuttle Lake on the Minnesota border. They met last week and had lifted the restriction on the rest of the lakes in Emmet County.
Bulls get bye, Frogs host Foxes to open playoffs
The Jackson Bulls get a bye and the Lakefield Frogs will host the Fox Lake Foxes to open the amateur baseball postseason. The Bulls are the No. 2 seed in the league tournament, which includes teams from the First Nite League and Gopher League. The top five seeds all get byes into the Region 13C tournament.
Two Vehicle Collision near Ashton
Ashton, IA (KICD) — Three individuals were transported to the hospital in Sibley following a two vehicle collision near Ashton about 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department says 65 year old Barbara Dunaway of Overland Park, Kansas was Westbound on County Road A-34 and failed to stop at the intersection, where 41 year old Allison Behrendsen of Schleswig was Northbound on County Road L-40. Both drivers and a passenger in the Dunaway vehicle were taken by ambulance to the Osceola Regional Health Center.
Sioux Center Woman Arrested After Crash
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sioux Center woman while investigating a car crash ten miles west of Sioux Center early Monday morning. 21-year-old Alexis Trejo of Sioux Center was arrested after she lost control of the Chevrolet Malibu she was driving and ended up in the ditch.

Carroll Man Charged With OWI After Striking Parked Car, Tree Thursday Morning
A Carroll man has been arrested on operating while intoxicated charges after crashing into a parked vehicle and a tree during the early morning hours last Thursday. According to the Carroll Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Carroll and 14th Streets at approximately 12:56 a.m. Authorities say 35-year-old Colby Michael Boell was traveling northbound on Carroll Street in a 2014 Chrysler 200 and veered into the southbound lane, striking a legally parked 1996 Chevrolet K1500. The Boell vehicle then overcorrected after the impact and hit a tree in a yard northeast of the intersection. Boell was taken into custody on the serious misdemeanor charge and transported to the Carroll County jail for processing. The Boell vehicle sustained totaling damage. Officials note the car struck the tree with such force as to snap the trunk off at the base.
