Study Looks at Grazing Personalities of Cattle
Cattle grazing distribution can be altered, to an extent, by adding water, supplementation, or fencing, but a recently published study by University of California-Davis researchers, Maggie Creamer, PhD, and Kristina Horback, PhD, looked into how ranchers may be able to observe the “grazing personalities” of individual cattle as a tool to inform their management decisions.
Laura McFarlane Donohoo and Mary Jo Alari Help Thrift Shoppe Thrive
Lucy Kelley, born June 28, 1897, described her drive for accomplishing things: “I just get the ball rolling.” One of the balls still rolling after Lucy’s death is the Mountain Thrift Shoppe in Blue Jay, although it was located at Highway 189 and Grass Valley when it was established in the late 1980’s. The Mountain Thrift Shoppe (originally christened as just “The Thrift Shoppe”) is thriving in its current location in Blue Jay. A traffic signal Lucy had promoted for four years at Daley Canyon and Highway 18, approved for 1990, seems to have fallen by the wayside.
How Taking a Wilderness First Responder Course Made Me a More Valuable Ski Partner
On New Year’s Eve last season, I watched my uncle break his femur right in front of me on Alta’s High Rustler, a steep, double-black diamond slope not very far from the base of the Utah ski area. I’m glad it was only a femur because when I saw him slam on the cat track in front of me after helplessly watching him violently tumble 1,000 feet at a not-ok speed, I thought I had literally watched his head explode before my very eyes. I stared, mouth agape, as his limp body rag-dolled a few more yards past the cat track before I unfroze and skied over to him, not knowing if he was still alive.
