Wildlife, hatchery programs available in July
Area residents can spend some time outdoors and enjoy taking part in the Wetland Meet and Greet at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley. Scheduled on various days throughout the month, attendees meet with a wildlife naturalist from the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. This interactive orientation may include information about Gray Lodge origins, assistance with identifying wildlife or behavior patterns, or a brief explanation of conservation management. Vegetation fire off of Newtown Road kept to one acre
Vegetation fire off of Newtown Road kept to one acre. A vegetation fire reported just after noon Wednesday, was kept to approximately an acre of vegetation burned off of Avian Place and Newtown Road. The fire was initially reported as 1/4 of an acre and burning uphill at a moderate rate of spread, immediately threatening a structure. By 12:15, firefighters on scene reported the fire had grown to one acre. Air attack and air tankers 88 and 89 were quickly over the fire from the Grass Valley Interagency Air Attack base and were beneficial in slowing the conflagration almost entirely before crews on the ground made access. By 12:20 the majority of the fire’s forward progress had been stopped and not long after full containment of the Avian Fire was called.

PORT TOWNSEND, WASH. — Acoustic Disc has announced a digital release for David Grisman & the Rounder Album Band, Live at Grass Valley. In November, 1975, David Grisman assembled a stellar cast of bluegrass characters to record his first LP for Rounder Records. The band included guitarist Tony Rice and bassist Todd Phillips of David's newly-formed Quintet, and fellow Dawg collaborators and alumni of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys — banjo innovator Bill Keith and the legendary fiddler Vassar Clements.
