Rock Lake residents participate in land, water triathlon

ROCK LAKE, W.Va. (WBOY) — Rock Lake residents pushed their limits on Saturday morning during the Rock Lake Triathlon.

For years residents of Rock Lake have been challenging themselves in tests of endurance by land and water. This year, the triathlon included a .4 mile kayak paddle, 4.8 mile bike ride and 1.6 mile run for adults, along with a .4 mile kayak paddle, 1.6 mile bike ride and a 1.6 mile run for ages 10-15.

Children aged 6-11 were also able to compete with distances being adjusted to .125 miles kayaking, 1.6 miles biking, and .5 miles running.

Race Director John-Mark Wood expressed his joy at hosting the event.

“It’s a perfect race day, the atmosphere is just fun,” he said.

• Adult Women’s Champion: Janel Nye – 42 min. 3 sec.
• 50+ Men’s Champion: David Huffman – 41 min. 49 sec.
• 50+ Women’s Champion: Jackie Huffman – 50 min. 12 sec.
• Adult Team Champions: Emma Brown & Clay Cabrera – 39 min. 0 sec.
• Youth Boy’s Champion: Owen Schlaizer – 35 min. 30 sec.
• Youth Team Champions: Zoey Schlaizer, Ollie Allen, Esme Allem – 30 min. 12 sec.
• Boy’s Champion: Eli Wood – 20 min. 10 sec.
• Girl’s Champion: Adara Nye – 14 min. 14 sec.
