Michiana residents question tornado warning sirens
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - Some Michiana residents are wondering if tornado sirens were activated when severe weather hit Michiana overnight. On Tuesday afternoon, St. Joseph County Emergency Management Agency officials Jim Lopez and Al Kirsits were tallying off all of the outdoor tornado sirens in our area. The 911 center monitors tornadoes along with the National Weather Service.
Strawberry Social a festive New Troy gathering
NEW TROY — The sixth Allan Boyd Memorial Strawberry Social brought people together in the gazebo garden behind the New Troy Community Center on July 14. The Strawberry Social has been gifted to the community from the Boyd family, every year since 2018. Three Oaks Village Council approves seeking sidewalk work bids
THREE OAKS — The Three Oaks Village Council narrowed down the areas of sidewalk to first be improved under a new repair/replace program during its July 10 regular meeting. Andrew Rudd of Wightman explained that four stretches of sidewalk have been identified using assessment studies by the Southwest Michigan Planning Commission and the village along with their own inspections as “poor condition” candidates for the first project (or projects if more than one can be accomplished) under a recently adopted program that sets aside $150,000 per year.

HARBERT — The Chikaming Township Board on July 11 approved applying for two grants to help develop Kohn Park in downtown Sawyer – a $150,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant with a $150,000 match which can include donations; and a Michigan Arts and Culture Council Experience Support Grant for $30,000 (with a $7,500 match).

Shipwreck Site Near Mount Baldy To Be Dedicated
INDIANA — On Thursday, July 18, the dedication of Indiana’s second official Shipwreck Nature Preserve — the “Muskegon” will take place just offshore from Indiana Dunes National Park’s Mount Baldy. Dr. Charles Beeker and colleagues from Indiana University’s Center for Underwater Science, along with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and National Park Service staff, will visit the site to install a mooring buoy, place a bronze commemorative plaque and collect high-quality underwater photos and footage.
