Through the first full day of competition at the 2024 Olympics, the U.S. won only one gold medal. Fortunately for Notre Dame fans, one of their own was involved with that. Chris Guiliano, who still swims for the Irish, won his first Olympic gold medal and the first gold medal for the U.S. in Paris. He did with the help of teammates Jack Alexy, Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel. Together, they won the 4×100-meter freestyle relay in 3 minutes, 9.28 seconds, missing the world record by a measly 1.04 seconds. Australia won the silver, and Italy took the bronze.
