In memoriam: Benjamin Radcliff, professor of political science
Benjamin Radcliff, a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, died June 10 after a long illness. He was 60. Radcliff’s scholarly work focused on the intersection of American and comparative politics. He made significant research contributions in three primary areas: social choice theory, the political influence of organized labor and the politics of human happiness.
Funding will energize workforce development in biomanufacturing industry
WEST LAFAYETTE— Purdue University, as a member of Heartland BioWorks, will share $51 million in federal funding to bolster workforce development and business startup efforts in the state’s burgeoning biotechnology ecosystem. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, the funding will catalyze Indiana’s biotechnology innovation and manufacturing efforts, which are a pillar of Purdue’s recently announced One Health Innovation District.
Elkhart man, 45, killed in motorcycle crash on Old U.S. 33
An Elkhart man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Old U.S. 33 near State Road 19. The collision happened just after 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, when Elkhart County Sheriff’s investigators say Jason Bridges, 45, was traveling eastbound and ran off the highway onto the property of 28080 Old U.S. 33 and struck a ditch and street sign.

Atelier Presents WCHS Student Show Of Surf Art
Contemporary art gallery Atelier will transform into a surf shack featuring student work from July 12 to Aug. 31. “Next Wave: Surf the Saw” is a group exhibition of surf-related art created by student artists from Warsaw Community High School. Works include handcrafted and painted stand-up paddle boards, longboards, wakeboards and skate decks, as well as film, sculpture, painting and installation art, according to a news release from Atelier.

"Hoosiers" Bus Charms La Porte with Nostalgia
(La Porte, IN) - One of the featured attractions of this year’s parade was the iconic 1939 maroon school bus used in the movie Hoosiers. It was brought to town by Darryll Baker of Greenfield, who says the bus had an interesting life even before the movie. “We’ve had this thing in our family for 75 years,” Baker told HTNN before the parade. “It was a school bus for ten years, before my grandfather bought it,” he said. Baker’s grandfather Jack found it in a junkyard near Crawfordsville. “Then for 36 years it was an RV for us, when I was a kid.” Baker said his grandfather outfitted the bus with a couch, bed, stove, and icebox, and the family toured the country. “My dad and grandfather went everywhere in this thing— 39 states, my grandfather said.”
