South Bend firefighters respond to multiple fires overnight
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend firefighters were called to two different structure fires on July 4 and into the morning of July 5. "Shortly before midnight companies were dispatched to the 700 block of Johnson Street for a fire," fire officials said. "F103 reported a working fire in a one-story house. Crews found fire on the exterior of the house on the Charlie side extending into the attic. Crews began attacking the fire and opening up the attic space where heavy fire was found. Crews were able to get a handle on the fire and the fire was marked under control around the third ten-minute notification. Primary and secondary searches were negative. No injuries were reported."

South Bend awards $15.2 million bid for 20,000-square-foot addition to Morris theater
SOUTH BEND — The city on Wednesday officially awarded a $15.2 million bid for construction of a 20,000-square-foot addition to the Morris Performing Arts Center. LaPorte-based Larson-Danielson Construction Company will soon begin roughly a year and a half of work on the Raclin Murphy Encore Center, a new building between the Morris and the LaSalle Hotel that will serve as additional lobby space and a hub for local arts programming.
