A fast-moving brush fire near Lancaster scorched hundreds of acres amid hot temperatures in the Antelope Valley Wednesday afternoon.

Crews responded to the blaze around 3:25 p.m. in the area of 60th Street West and West Avenue C., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters estimated the blaze grew to about 388 acres by the evening, but forward progress was stopped.

Named the Columbia Fire, the blaze burned in light to moderate vegetation amid some gusty conditions.

A couple of structures were in the area, but no evacuations or damage was immediately reported.

Crews battled the flames by air and on the ground. It's unknown what caused the fire.
