A fight involving three people in the Lancaster area left one woman dead, one woman injured, and a male suspect was arrested, authorities said Monday.

Deputies were sent to the 42900 block of 59th Street West at 8:25 p.m. Sunday on a report of an assault, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"When deputies arrived on scene, they located two unconscious females at the location," a sheriff's department statement said. "Investigators learned there was a physical fight between three individuals... The male had assaulted the two females."

The women were taken to a local hospital, where one of them died, officials said. The other woman was treated and released.

"The male has been arrested for the homicide and assault of the two females," sheriff's officials said. "There was only one suspect in this assault, and there is no concern for the public's safety."

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website http://lacrimestoppers.org .
