Deputies from the LASD Lancaster Station responded to a call for service at a local business shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of West Avenue I in the city of Lancaster.
The caller stated that a robbery was in progress and at least one person was down with unknown injuries. Upon arrival, deputies located a male adult suffering from at least one gunshot wound as a result of the initially reported robbery attempt.
When Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel arrived on scene, they immediately pronounced the male deceased. Homicide investigators responded to the location.
The male victim had not been identified by name at the time of this report, but it was confirmed by his father and business owner that it was his son who had just relieved his mother from that same store 15 minutes prior to the fatal shooting.
In an update from the LASD late Tuesday evening, preliminary information from the investigation so far indicates that “two male Black adults entered the store and were involved in a fight with the victim, during which time one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and shot the victim. The suspects were last seen fleeing the location on foot.”
There is no additional information at this time.
