    High School Weekend Roundup: Fisher Catholic’s Hyde O'Rielley sparks Irish to big win

    Here’s a look at Lancaster-area high school sports results from the weekend.

    FOOTBALL

    Fisher Catholic 49, Tuscarawas Central Catholic 0: Led by senior Hyde O’Rielley, the Irish cruised in a nonconference win Saturday night at Fulton Field.

    O’Rielley got it done on both sides of the ball and scored three touchdowns in three different game phases. He returned a punt 77 yards for a score, caught a 28-yard touchdown pass, and returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown. Defensively, he had 11 tackles, including four for loss.

    Gage Armstrong scored on touchdown runs of 5 and 8 yards, Jayden Morales caught an 8-yard touchdown pass and Leo Hampshire scored on a 72-yard touchdown run. Grant Keefer threw two touchdown passes, and Bobby Bennett had an interception on defense.

    CROSS COUNTRY

    Lancaster girls: The Lady Gales traveled to the DeWine farm to compete at the Dual at the DeWine's. The Gales took on the Thomas Worthington Cardinals. The Gales once again hit the perfect score of 15. Freshman Brooke Derringer led the Gales in 1st with a time of 18:55, Harper Allen followed in 2nd with a 19:02, Ava Parrett in 3rd (19:36), Amelia Fries in 4th (19:50), Hadley Allen in 5th (21:07), and Ava Zeiders in 8th (22:12).

    Solid performances were turned in by Alia Hopple (22:52), Mackenzie Rudduck (23:38), Katie Coy (23:46), Lily Carpico ( 23:59), Brenna Jarrett (24:33), Annabelle Walter ( 26:08), Evelyn Hill (26:12), Morgan Johnson (26:54), Chelsey Hunt (26:56), Zoe Fullen (27:03), Callie Kretzmann (27:38), Alayna Knoch (28:13), Emma Loudon (31:04), Annabelle Whitacre (31:15), and Luna Safreed (37:17).

    On Saturday, Sept. 7, the Gales travel to Watkins for the McGowan Invitational.

    Lancaster boys: The Gales were defeated by Little Miami High School in Saturday's Duals at Dewines. This annual event matches strong Central and Southwest Ohio teams in head-to-head competition on a challenging course on the Ohio Governor's farm.  Brock Jarrett led the Gales, followed by Carter Davis, Charlie Cooperrider, Joe Strigle, Hunter McFarland, Jonas Roush and Talan Carter.  Fifteen (15) of 22 Lancaster runners set a new season best, nine of which were all-time personal bests.

    Liberty Union: The Liberty Union Cross Country teams competed at the Circleville Kiwanis Invitational on August 31. The girls team placed sixth and was led by Rachel Sponseller (10th, 22:22). She was followed by Taylor Jones (27th, 24:13), Caroline Endsley (49th, 26:31), Elizabeth Conn (51st, 27:00), Emma Huntwork (61st, 28:11), Kathleen Slaby (70th 29:20), and Hennali Haines (75th, 29:53). The boys team placed fourteenth. It was led by William McCreery (34th, 18:29). He was followed by Charlie Sponseller (45th, 19:03), William Gonzalez (104th, 21:38), Levi Hendershot (154th, 23:34), and Silas Kohler (155th, 23:35).

    Fisher Catholic: The Irish boys and girls participated in the Vinton County Cross Country Invitational. The Irish girls placed second out of nine teams, scoring 59 points while Waverly won the meet scoring 53 points.

    Leading the Irish Girls was sophomore Mary Grace Crabtree who placed eighth with a time of 22:52.3. Other Irish runners were Eve Ohwoforwaraye 24:15 senior Maggie Murphy 24:16.9-14th, senior Abigail Crabtree-24:41.8-18th, and Allison Krile-24:45.9-20th.

    The Irish boys placed third out of eight teams, scoring 81 points while Vinton County won the meet, scoring 58 points. Leading the Irish was junior Landen Funk who placed sixth with a time of 18:23.5. Other Irish runners were junior Reece Hagy-19:00.3-ninth, Roman Funk-19:31.4-16th, freshman Corbin Stobart- 19:39.1-19th and sophomore Noah Krile- 21:337.1-47th.

    Fairfield Union: The Falcons boys team won the Circleville Invitational with 34 points to beat the second-place team by 24 points. There were 22 teams in the meet and 197 runners.

    The Falcons were led by senior Andrew Walton, who claimed first place overall with an impressive time of 15:46.4. Nathan Phillips placed fifth (16:36.4), Christian Reindle was eighth (17:16.5), Connor Myers was 12 th (17:31.7), Chase Miller was 14 th (17:34.2), Ryan Boyer was 22 nd (17:59.2), Andrew Ray was 35 th (18:30.5), and Colin Reindle was 38 th (18:50.7).

    The Falcon girls also placed first with 48 points. There 14 teams and 119 runners.

    The Falcons were led by junior Vera Henderly, who placed sixth overall with a time of 21:56.0. Abigail Pike placed 7 th (22:11.9), Julia Widner placed 8 th (22:13.7), Adelyn Winters placed 9 th (22:17.4), Claire Wilkinson placed 19 th (23:37.8), Annalese Berry placed 59 th (28:00), and Natalie Hotrum placed 64 th (28:24.6).

    SOCCER

    Lancaster 4, Teays Valley 2: The Gales picked up their first Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division win over the Vikings.

    Addison Westbrooks scored two goals, while Sienna Westbrooks and Brook Derringer scored one each and Molly Stedman had an assist. Maddie Boothe had seven saves and Grace Hampson finished with three saves. Lancaster improved to 3-1 overall.

    Bloom-Carroll 18, Logan Elm 0: The Bulldogs cruised in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division win over the Braves. Tessa Brooks and Savannah Wilde led the way with two goals each.

    VOLLEYBALL

    Fairfield Union 3, Liberty Union 0: The Falcons improved to 7-0 and 2-0 in the MSL-Buckeye Division after their 25-15, 25-15, 25-13 win over the Lions.

    Christian Thompson finished with 17 kills and eight digs, Payton Rhymer had 25 assists, Addy Wolfe added five blocks, and Madison Collins chipped in 10 digs.

    Bloom-Carroll 3, Circleville 0: The Bulldogs swept the Tigers 25-11, 25-23, 25-14 in MSL-Buckeye Division action to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.

    Corinne Knapp had 15 kills and seven digs, Katie Marshal 10 10 digs, and Madison Lacy finished with 36 assists.

    TENNIS

    Marysville 4, Lancaster 1 : Singles: Linnea Olofsson (M) def. Kynlee Baer 6-2, 6-3; Natalie Fair (M) def. Kaylee  Akers 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; Emily Ingle (M) def. Kenzie White 6-2, 6-4. Doubles: Brinkley Conklin-Tori Wellington (L) def. Ada Burhanna-Sami Haigh 6-3, 6-2; Sophia Hacker-Nyla Baumbarger (M) def. Vivian Worthington-Kiersin Willet 6-4, 6-1.
