It is never too early to start thinking about high school football.

This week's archive photo comes from 1936 and features the Lancaster grid (football) club.

Lancaster opened that season against McConnelsville and won 25-0.

Here is a portion of the article written when this photo appeared in the Sept. 21, 1936, Eagle-Gazette:

To the local football fan, Lancaster shows as great promise as any of the title winning clubs of several years ago.

The husky golden-clad warriors placed an indelible print on the sideliners Friday night as they rolled up huge yardage, filled the air with passed and skirted ends in mid-season fashion.

While joy beheld the Golden Tornado camp, all was not so jubilant in other Central Ohio league lairs. Zanesville's untried club whipped Caldwell 21-0, while Marietta ran rough shod over a weak Glouster eleven. But Cambridge and Newark fared not so nicely. The Brownies absorbed a 21-0 trouncing at the hands of Mansfield while Columbus West, with Ray Redmond in the starring role, took a 6 to 0 decision from Newark.

To celebrate the return of high school football this season, the Eagle-Gazette will be publishing photo galleries of local teams on Mondays leading up to the season. First up is Lancaster High School and a gallery that features the last 20 seasons of Golden Gales football teams with 150 photos.

If you are reading this in the print edition, be sure to go to LancasterEagle-Gazette.com and check out the Lancaster gallery.
