LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Pennsylvania State Police Corporal was shot in Lancaster while assisting with a search warrant on Wednesday morning.

Pennsylvania State Police say members of the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) were conducting a search warrant on the 600 block of East Fulton Street in Lancaster City at 6:19 a.m. in relation to an armed robbery investigation.

State Police say after Troopers announced their presence and began to use tools to break storage units a suspect opened fire and shot the Corporal in the arm.

The Corporal suffered a non-life-threatening bullet wound and was taken to Lancaster General Hospital where they’re in stable condition.

State Police say the suspect, Alfredo Maldonado-Gonzalez was taken into custody without injury, and State Police say no shots were fired by law enforcement. A stolen handgun was located as part of the investigation and State Police say Maldonado-Gonzalez is a person not allowed to possess a firearm based on a 2001 conviction.

State Police say Maldonado-Gonzalez was on a FaceTime call with someone around the time of the shooting. The witness said she saw two flashes before the video disconnected.

Maldonado-Gonzalez is facing charges including attempted criminal homicide of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, assault on law enforcement, and multiple firearms charges.

State Police are investigating and there is no threat to the public.
