Eagles Host Furman For 2024 Home Opener
Winthrop men's soccer is set to host Furman for their 2024 home opener at Eagle Field on Sunday, August 25. After suffering a heavy 7-1 season-opening loss to South Carolina, the Eagles aim to bounce back against an opponent they have historically struggled against. Furman currently leads the series with a record of 10-1. This match marks a critical early season test as Winthrop looks to leverage their returning roster, which includes several key starters from the previous year.
4-star South Carolina football target announces college commitment
So far in the class of 2025, the South Carolina football program has one commitment on the offensive line. 4-star in-state prospect Shed Sarratt (a product of Gaffney High School in the Upstate) pledged his services to the Gamecocks early this summer, but as of now, there have been no other offensive linemen to join him in the class. Class of 2026 offensive line recruit Anthony Baxter is committed, however.
Road Closures In Matthews In Preparation For Matthews Alive Festival
MATTHEWS, N.C. – Matthews Police announced multiple road closures on Friday, August 30 due to the Matthews Alive Festival. Starting at 9:00 a.m., South Trade Street will be closed from the intersection of East John Street to McDowell Street. At 5:00 p.m., the closure will extend to Main Street for the remainder of the festival.

Arrest made after teen shot in head at McDonald’s in Rock Hill
ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - One person was arrested in connection with a shooting at a McDonald’s in Rock Hill, South Carolina that injured a teenager over the weekend. At around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25, an 18-year-old man was shot in the head in the parking lot of a McDonald’s on South Cherry Road near Oakland Avenue, police said. The teenager was reportedly placed on life support after the shooting.
