Open Mic Night includes new local talent
IRON RIVER - A brand new act will take the stage at the next Open Mic Night June 29 at 7 p.m. in the Windsor Auditorium. Local baristas and talented vocalists/musicians, Hunter Loewen and Rebecca McPhereson, will perform a set of duets with tight harmonies. “This will be the first time this duo has performed on the Open Mic stage, and I can’t wait for folks to hear them,” said Erika Sauter, coordinator.

Shamco hosts grand opening for their $5.5 million expansion
IRON RIVER – Shamco Lumber Inc. hosted a grand opening of their recent expansion to their lumber mill in Iron River June 14, where they gave tours of the mill that explained the process that lumber goes through and the machinery used to do it. Food and drink were provided.

Kaye McCardle, 89, of Eagle River, WI, formerly of Mitchell, SD, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD, under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service will be held at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, WI, on Friday, June 21, at 2:00 PM, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Eagle River Cemetery.
James “Gib” Zmek
James “Gib” Zmek, a lifelong resident of Sugar Camp, passed away Friday June 7, 2024. Gib was very conversational and known by many in the communities of Sugar Camp and Eagle River. In his early years of life, he spent time working on the resort with his parents, which James and Agnes Zmek owned on Arbutus Lake.
Gasperini highlights opening night at Eagle River Speedway
Frank Gasperini of Iron Mountain, Mich., highlighted a slew of winners during the season opener at Eagle River Speedway on June 11, racing in the Chef Rene B Mod Feature. Other opening night winners included Jesse Aho of Twin Lakes, Mich., in the late model feature, and David Blackberg of Eagle River in the IMCA stock car feature.

Wisconsin man sentenced to minimum of 4.5 years for selling meth in Gogebic County
IRONWOOD, Mich. (Northern News Now) - A Wisconsin man has been sentenced for selling meth in Gogebic County. On Tuesday, Justin James O’Dell, 36, from Eagle River, Wis. was sentenced to serve a minimum of 4.5 years in prison. He previously pleaded guilty to delivery of meth and maintaining a drug house.

Man sentenced for delivering meth in Gogebic County
BESSEMER, MI— An Eagle River, Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 4.5 to 20 years in prison on meth-related charges. Last December, the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics Team started investigating Justin O’Dell, 36, for distributing meth in the Gogebic County area. GIANT conducted controlled buys and tracked O’Dell with a GPS unit. Officers monitored his activities from the U.P. to Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. They stopped O’Dell’s vehicle when he returned to Gogebic County.
