Long Beach landmark Joe Jost’s turns 100 in August
Joe Jost’s is one of the oldest, continually-run taverns west of the Mississippi River, according to owner Ken Buck. “The business founded in 1924 by my grandfather is considered a Long Beach institution, serving the coldest beer, tastiest ‘Joe’s Special’ sandwiches, pickled eggs, fresh roasted peanuts and warmest atmosphere of any tavern in the United States,” said Buck, who admits he’s a little biased.

Even though investment scams make a small portion over the overall types of scams reported to authorities, the amount of monetary losses to fraudulent schemes is shockingly high.

Gov. Gavin Newsom sent a letter to Oakland leaders on Friday, urging them to re-evaluate restrictions on police pursuits. First obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, the letter was addressed to Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, the city council, and the police commission.
