Shook is ‘honored’ to receive Cherokee Nation Medal of Patriotism
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. – Cherokee veteran, Coy Shook, recently received the Cherokee Nation Medal of Patriotism for his service in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1969. Shook, 81, spent five years (1960-1965) of his service at Travis Air Force Base in California providing aircraft supply support for cargo planes (C133B and C130E) that were flying in the Pacific. At the base Shook determined what items were needed to keep the cargo planes fully functioning and ensured supplies were ready to go when the planes landed so they could quickly get back in the air.
Some Fast-Food Restaurants in L.A. Charging Fees For Bags
Some fast-food restaurants in Los Angeles are now charging fees for bags. The fees have been noticed by McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A customers in recent months. The L.A. City Attorney’s Office says it’s perfectly legal. Last July, the 2013 bag ordinance that allows grocery stores to charge for bags was amended to also include restaurants.

Dozens of Rescued Dogs Flown to Utah for New Homes
Over 50 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation in Desert Hot Springs were flown to Utah by the nonprofit Wings of Rescue. This marks the third dog hoarding case in the area in the past three weeks. The animals, which were found by Riverside County Animal Control Services and received necessary treatment, are now awaiting new homes. The flight and associated costs were covered by donations to the rescue group.
Laguna Beach woman says viral video doesn't capture whole story
A heated confrontation was caught on video between a homeowner in Laguna Beach and a family that was sitting on the sand in front of her home.The incident, which was captured in a now viral video, happened last week on Victoria Beach near the trail stairs.In the footage, the woman is seen yelling at the family and using a spool of rope to section off her property.The homeowner told Eyewitness News that she asked the group to leave once the beach closed. She claims she was being antagonized before being recorded.The family claims they were never on her property. Eyewitness News reached out to the family involved, but they declined to comment.According to the California Coastal Commission, all beaches are public up to the high tide line.
