LAPEER (WWJ) - Oxford school shooter Ethan Crumbley is facing possible sanctions after authorities say he got into a fight with another prisoner at the Lapeer facility he is being housed in.

Officials say Crumbley and an unnamed 17-year-old fought in the unit they are housed in at the Thumb Correctional Facility in the evening of March 19.

Staff immediately responded and were able to get the situation under control, a report from the Michigan Department of Corrections said.

There is no word on what led to the fight.

There were no weapons involved, and there were no serious injuries reported, the report said. Both prisoners were checked out at a local hospital.

The two prisoners have been issued “misconducts for fighting” and will have hearings to determine potential punishments stemming from the incident, the statement said.

According to an article from WDIV , both prisoners are on “limited movement” during the investigation.

The two could have restricted cell phone use or loss of the privilege completely as a possible punishment, the article said.

Crumbley, who pleaded guilty to the 2021 mass shooting at Oxford High School, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in December of 2023. Four people were killed and six were injured during the shooting.

James and Jennifer Crumbley, the parents of Ethan, were both found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. They are the first parents to be charged in relation to a school shooting committed by their child.

Crumbley was also in a fight with another prisoner on Jan. 7, the report said.
