Four area businesses to be featured on America’s Best Restaurants
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Three South Dakota restaurants and a nearby Iowa pub will be featured in an upcoming episode of America’s Best Restaurants Roadshow. Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea, Carnaval Brazilian Grill in Sioux Falls, Lone Pine Bar & Grill in Watertown and CHUDS Pub and Grub in Larchwood, Iowa, will all be receiving a visit from America’s Best Restaurant Roadshow’s crew in mid-July to be featured on an upcoming episode.
Boutique inspires others to shop local
LARCHWOOD—With her boutique on Broadway in Larchwood, American Hero Clothing owner Michelle Sanderson allows customers to shop without making a trip to a big city. “When people discover they don’t have to make a trip to Sioux Falls for clothing or gift options, it’s a wonderful thing,” Sanderson said.
Rapid Speedway Suspends Season; Major Modifications To 2024 Lyon County Fair
Rock Rapids, Iowa — A popular northwest Iowa race track has made a tough decision and has suspended races for the rest of the season. According to Rapid Speedway officials in Rock Rapids, due to the record flooding in the area in June, the races at Rapid Speedway have been suspended until further notice. At last report, large portions of the track remained underwater, and the fence was completely gone.
Longtime Afghan restaurant to close
After almost 20 years in business, Arian Wisaal is closing his Afghan restaurant. The final day for Khorasan Kabob House at 923 S. Marion Road is July 21. “We tried the restaurant business, but it just didn’t work out like we want,” Wisaal said of he and his wife, Tamana.

High water levels create turbulent rescue trainings
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — While the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue typically runs into scorching fires, it sometimes swaps the heat for diving into water. In a Facebook post July 3, a group of firefighters took to the Big Sioux River to train for water rescues. Firefighter Jack Claussen described these rescues as a “low frequency, high-risk event” despite the bodies of water in and surrounding the city.

High speed chase ends in apartment building crash
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — An 18-year old faces traffic and drug charges after crashing into an apartment building in Sioux Falls. Officials say he made an obscene gesture to a Highway Patrolman, then sped away at over 100-miles an hour. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an apartment complex near Kuehn Park. A man inside the building was knocked out of his wheelchair. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The food truck Tacos de Gringo has gone out of business abruptly after three years of serving street tacos with a chef’s touch. Ken Leonard and his wife, Calain, started the business after selling their house in Arizona and moving to Sioux Falls four years ago. At the time, Leonard said they were drawn to South Dakota after hearing media reports about the “relatively low” COVID-19 cases and the governor’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
