Opinion: Signing Tomoyuki Sugano Makes a Lot of Sense for the Cubs
The Chicago Cubs have the beginnings of a playoff team but still need to add some pieces. While there is some question of what they will do, if anything, to add to the club’s offense, there is little doubt the team will add a starting pitcher to its rotation. The most likely route to improve the rotation is via free agency. And while I’d like to think the Cubs will pursue high end targets like Corbin Burnes or Max Fried that’s probably unlikely.
10 Tips for Poverty Management
Like wealth, poverty need management. Rich people seem to always have “experts” who want to help them with their situation in life. Poor people, not so much. With that in mind, here are some things that may make poverty a little more bearable. Keep in mind this is a subject I researched for years, though not on purpose. Things just turned out that way.
Satire: Payday When you're Poor
It can be like being caught in a stampede. In the past I’ve written about getting paid when you are poor. It’s so much different than when you are rich, and an investment pays off. When you are poor and get paid, it’s a cause for celebration. You’ve made it to another payday! It’s like you’ve won the home version of “Survivor.” Poverty has been celebrated in various entertainment venues.
Satire: 10 Signs You're a Pessimist
Has life kicked you in the groin repeatedly? Do you constantly feel that the glass is half empty? And that what’s in it is polluted? When your spouse tells you you’re the only one for them, do you lose respect for them because they are settling? Are you surprised each day just to wake up?
Satire: Yes, there is a Weather Machine
But our best guy is working on it. The weather news coming from Florida is horrific. Hurricane Milton has Florida dead in its cross hairs. This comes on the heels of Hurricane Helene. It has some people looking for answers as to why this is happening. The uninformed may think that climate change is to blame.
Satire: Sequels to Time Travel Movies Don't Work
They become a vicious cycle. I enjoy a good science fiction movie. And when it comes to science fiction, one of my favorite basic premises is that of time travel. But with the time travel movie comes the inherent risk of the time travel movie sequel. And with each sequel comes another layer of ridiculousness you have to ignore. It’s like a dirty house or dirty dishes, you can take it for a while but eventually, it gets to the point where you have to do something.
A Cartoonish Look at Vacation and Travel
Maybe some of these thing shav ehappened to you. I thought when I got old, I would like to travel. However, now that I’m old it doesn’t have the appeal I thought it would. No doubt part of it is me, but I believe that travel and vacationing isn’t what it used to be. So, can you relate to any of the following situations?
How Did the AL Central Get Good So Fast?
They took different routes. One of the more shocking aspects of this season’s MLB playoffs is the fact that three teams from the AL Central are still involved. And a fourth, the Minnesota Twins finished over .500 at 82-80. Of course, teams in the AL Central were bolstered by having those saddest of sacks, the Chicago White Sox in their division. Still, there was some definite improvement in the division. Here’s a quick look at the three AL Central teams in the playoffs.
Satire: Modern Medicine Can Test Your Sense of Humor
If any of us attempt to write humor we’ve probably had someone tell us we’re funny. If not, you’re either really, really shy, or delusional. So, how can you tell if you’re witty or funny? Generally the reaction of those around you.
15 Odd Facts About Green Acres
It was actually better than I realized. I can still remember the Green Acres theme song. It’s one of the catchiest in the history of TV. The show itself was a pretty good ratings getter for CBS in the 60s. Eventually, however, like The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction, it ran afoul of the great CBS rural purge of the early 70s.
Did You have any of these Toys from the 60s and 70s?
If so, congratulations on surviving. It seems like the toys from the 60s were colorful and just a barrel of fun. I say that based, primarily on seeing them on TV commercials. Coming from a poor family, not many of them found their way to our house.
A Cartoonish Look at Writing
Here are some of the potential problems. I worked with cartoonist, Jerry King for better than 15 years. Over the years, we’ve combined for thousands of cartoons. And Jerry does many more thousands of cartoons on his own. He is quite possibly the most prolific cartoonist in the world. He may also have sold more cartoons than any other cartoonist in the world.
10 Surprising Things About KFC and Colonel Sanders
The Colonel's personal life wasn't as white as his suit. When I was growing up, my dad loved KFC. I’m actually fairly fond of it myself, but what I’m not that thrilled with is the various ways Harland Sanders has been portrayed in the company’s ads in recent years. I’ve seen at least 13 people portray the Colonel over the years. None of them blew me away, but a few seemed especially poorly suited to portray the Colonel.
Satire: 11 Bad Calls to Action
We are bombarded by them constantly. Some are subtle, others not so much. They are calls to action, or, as what us old guys call, closes. Ultimately, websites will generally finish with a call to action. The action desired may vary. It may be to buy something, sign up for a newsletter, or get a free sample.
Jed Hoyer Gives Cubs' Fans Little Reason to Get Excited
Wait and hope isn't a plan. Jed Hoyer’s Tuesday morning press conference was a combination of tap dancing and preaching the gospel of long-term development. If Chicago Cubs‘ fans were hoping that the organization would be swinging for the fences when it comes to free agency, Hoyer did little to fan the flames of optimism. Instead, he said the budget would be determined later during organizational meetings.
My Experience with Social Media and Marketing
Almost all of us engage in social media in some way. Why do we do it? Is there any benefit to it? Years ago I read that social media is first and foremost a business. While I appreciate keeping in touch with friends via social media, for me it’s also an advertising arm for my writing. I did a little research on social media and put together some thoughts on it.
