EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — A bicyclist was critically injured in what is believed to be a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday morning, July 23 in Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Police Department said.

Shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, Las Cruces police and fire were dispatched to the corner of Amador Avenue and Motel Boulevard, in front of the TA Travel Center, after a passerby found a 59-year-old man lying on the roadway with a bicycle nearby, police said.

The man was suffering from head trauma and was unconscious, Las Cruces police said.

He was initially transported to a local hospital before being taken to University Medical Center of El Paso where he remains in critical condition.

At this time, investigators do not know the circumstances that led to the man’s injuries.

Anyone with information that can help investigators determine what caused the man’s injuries is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
