The UFC announced last week that Conor McGregor had withdrawn from his scheduled fight against Michael Chandler in the main event at UFC 303, which is taking place on June 29 in Las Vegas, Nev. Now we know the nature of the injury that kept McGregor out of the fight.

McGregor shared photos via X Friday of his injury. The photos showed the pinkie toe on McGregor’s left foot looking very discolored and swollen. McGregor included an X-ray that appeared to show the toe was fractured.

In his post, McGregor made a reference to Chael Sonnen, who claimed that McGregor was in rehabilitation for substance abuse.

McGregor addressed his withdrawal in a post on Instagram.

“Man we were so f–king super ready for this fight it is absolutely gut wrenching to take,” McGregor wrote (profanity censored by LBS). “I want that new Bugatti how I gone justify to myself getting that now without banking these fights. We had a lapse in concentration and engaged in a training session without wearing the full protective gear and I hit the toe off the elbow and broke the toe clean. It needs a few weeks that’s it.

“I couldn’t justify to my team, or fans, that I make the walk hindered again. That walk has been seen. This next walk has got to be, and it will be, 100% Conor McGregor. The fans deserve it and we are getting close. A slight lapse in concentration and a nuisance of an injury was picked up. That’s it. Take the lesson and move forward. I will get this back. I’ve got too. I’ve got two fights left on my contract.”

Despite his withdrawal, McGregor stated that he has two more fights left on his UFC contract, so we should expect him back in action before long.

The 35-year-old McGregor last fought in the UFC in 2021 when he lost consecutive fights to Dustin Poirier. McGregor is 22-6 in his professional MMA career.
