Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – A neighborhood in the far northwest valley was shut down for hours on Saturday due to a standoff between a car theft suspect and Las Vegas Metro Police.

Police were originally called to a convenience store near Lone Mountain and 215 after a man said that someone had stolen his car from the parking lot.

Officers tracked the victim’s vehicle to the 10800 block of Lost Ark Avenue. While in the area, officers were flagged down by a man who stated their roommate had arrived at their residence and threatened them with a firearm. Officers were able to determine the roommate was the same suspect from the stolen vehicle incident.

Additional officers set up a perimeter around the residence and got everyone out except for their suspect, as SWAT and crisis negotiators arrived.

After a few hours, a shot was heard from inside the residence and a drone was sent in to investigate, locating a man unresponsive inside of a closet. SWAT then went insides and confirmed that the man had taken his own life. His identity has not yet been released.
