LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Documents 8 News Now obtained show a beauty salon owner in Las Vegas and Henderson owes her former employees nearly $20,000 in unpaid wages.

Jaymee Lawrence closed all five of her Fantastic Sams locations and is nowhere to be found.

Melissa Snyder worked for Lawrence at the 55 South Valle Verde Drive location in Henderson.

    Snyder saw employees leaving.

“I’m beginning to see that they weren’t the problem, she’s always been the problem,” Snyder said.

Records from the state reveal what was the true problem.

Lawrence owes at least 17 of her former Fantastic Sams employees an estimated $19,500, according to documents from the Nevada Department of Labor.

Those records indicate that Lawrence owes Snyder $3,200.

“Not a good business person. Not a good person at all,” Snyder said.

Snyder also worked at the Fantastic Sams on 9775 Maryland Parkway.

According to a document dated May 7, Lawrence owed $11,500 in rent at that location.

Her former employees complained to the Nevada Department of Labor, and shared text messages where they asked Lawrence, “We getting paid today?”

Another text message stated, “My rent is due. I don’t have an alternate source of income.”

A document showed the Nevada State Labor Commissioner fined Lawrence $10,000 on June 12.

Among the many statutes she’s accused of violating, the commissioner threatened to refer the matter to the Nevada Attorney General for criminal prosecution for Lawrence failing to pay her employees and not providing advance notice of the closures.

As for Snyder, she’s renting a chair at Elements Salon located on Water Street near Ocean Avenue in Henderson and loves her new shop.

“I don’t have to worry about anybody paying me. I don’t have to worry about, ‘Oh my gosh am I going to get paid on Friday?’ Or anything like that, because I am my own boss,” she said.

8 News Now reached out to Lawrence multiple times for answers.

In a text message requesting a response, Lawrence wrote, “You have the wrong number.”

The number was shared to 8 News Now by a family member who requested anonymity.
