LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The man accused of orchestrating the murder of the rapper Tupac Shakur renewed his motion for a judge in Clark County to grant him bail, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

In a court filing Monday, Duane “Keffe D” Davis asked that the 8 th Judicial District Court accept the bond posted by Davis in June. At a hearing on June 26, a judge officially declined to allow an entertainment manager to pay Davis’ bail, saying she was concerned the bond was actually a de facto contract for future interviews.

At that hearing, Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny heard arguments from prosecutors and Davis. Cash Jones, an entertainment manager who also goes by the name “Wack 100,” posted 15% of Davis’ $750,000 bail, the amount required to post a bond with the aid of a bail bond company.

Prosecutors said Jones wanted to record interviews with Davis both pre-and-post release, which would violate Kierny’s request Davis not profit from his statements. The 8 News Now Investigators reported after the hearing that Kierny appeared unlikely to approve of the bond.

Davis is being held at Clark County Detention Center with no bail. Las Vegas Metro police arrested Davis on Sept. 29, 2023, near his Henderson home. The day before, a grand jury indicted him on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.

In Monday’s motion, filed after court closed for the day, Davis’ attorney argued that because Davis has not been found guilty of murdering Shakur, the court cannot prevent Davis from being able to “derive a financial benefit in this matter.”

“The court does not have the legal authority to prevent Mr. Davis from receiving any financial benefit from discussing his life or alleged involvement in the charges brought against him,” Davis’ argued in his written motion.

Instead, the motion continued, “The relevant inquiry for the source hearing should be whether Mr. Cash Jones obtained the bond premium in some illegal manner or were the funds obtained through legitimate business purposes.”

Davis has publicly said he was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car, which pulled up side-by-side to Tupac’s before the shooting at the intersection. Marion “Suge” Knight, the then-head of Death Row Records, was driving the car with Shakur in the passenger seat. Knight was injured in the shooting.

Davis’ attorney, Carl Arnold, previously told the 8 News Now Investigators that his client was lying when making public statements about Shakur’s murder.

Davis’ trial was scheduled to begin in November.
