LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced a Las Vegas man who threatened a U.S. Representative and their family to nearly four years in prison.

Anthony Lewis Hamelin, 52, was sentenced to 46 months of prison time followed by three years of supervision after being released for pleading guilty to the two charges.

According to court documents, Hamelin called and left a voicemail threatening the spouse of a then-U.S. House of Representatives member in early June 2023.

In the voicemail, Hamelin threatened to kill the representative’s son, claiming he was on his way to carry out the threat. Court documents also reveal he sent text messages expressing frustration with the representative for carrying out his duties.

After the voicemails had been sent, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers located Hamelin and arrested him.

In March 2024, Hamelin pleaded guilty to one count of influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threatening a family member and one count of transmitting a communication containing a threat to injure.

He was officially sentenced on July 16.
