    Suspect identified in attempted kidnapping in east Las Vegas

    UPDATE 7/19 11:22 a.m. — Police have released more details about Thursday's attempted kidnapping, including the identity of the suspect.

    Kidnapping ends in police chase across east Las Vegas

    Police arrested 37-year-old Michael Kopietz who is facing seven felonies in regards to the attempted kidnapping.

    Kopietz is charged with:

    • Burglary while in possession of a firearm or deadly weapon constituting domestic violence
    • Kidnapping, second degree - with the use of a deadly weapon or tear gas
    • Domestic battery with the use of a deadly weapon
    • Coercion constituting domestic violence with the threat or use of physical force - deadly weapon enhancement
    • Trafficking in schedule I or II controlled substance; flunitrazepam or GHB, 400 grams or more.
    • Assault constituting domestic violence, with the use of a deadly weapon
    • Driver disobeying peace officer, endangering other person/property

    Kopietz is scheduled to be in court Friday at 1:30 p.m.
    ORIGINAL STORY:

    Police are investigating a kidnapping that started Thursday afternoon.

    According to Las Vegas Metro police, a woman was forced into a truck by a man armed with a gun around 3:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of East Charleston. Officers found the truck and a chase started.

    The chase ended when the truck caused a wreck with another vehicle and then hit the wall of an apartment complex near East Lake Mead and North Pecos.

    The man was arrested and the woman is safe, according to authorities. Two people in the other vehicle were taken to an area hospital.

    Police said there is no further danger to the public and the investigation is ongoing.
