Raiders cause controversy with Kermit the Frog puppet dressed as Patrick Mahomes

The Las Vegas Raiders appeared to mock Patrick Mahomes by whipping out a Kermit the Frog doll that resembled the two-time NFL MVP.

During a training session, the Raiders broke out a Kermit puppet that featured Mahomes’ trademark hair and Kansas City Chiefs jersey. Players laughed as they mimicked the quarterback’s voice too, which could spell trouble for the boisterous Las Vegas players once they face the Chiefs. It's unclear exactly when the video was filmed, but it emerged on social media on Thursday.

“I’m here! I'm here!” the Raiders players could be heard saying as the puppet was brandished around. The comments were about Mahomes’ trash talk during Kansas City’s 30–29 win over Las Vegas in October 2022.

Raiders rookie safety Trey Taylor is the brave player hoisting the Kermit Mahomes puppet, leading to roars of laughter from hysterical teammates. But Mahomes and the Chiefs will likely use the incident as bulletin board material.

Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL. He is a three-time Super Bowl champion - including leading the Chiefs to the Lombardi Trophy in back-to-back seasons - while he has won the division six straight times since his first full season in 2018.

Perhaps the Raiders simply do not fear Mahomes or the Chiefs under head coach Antonio Pierce. Back on Christmas Day with Pierce serving as interim head coach following Josh McDaniels’ firing, the Raiders stunned the Chiefs on Christmas Day , inflicting a fifth loss of the season on the reigning Super Bowl champion.

Mahomes uncharacteristically faltered in the 20-14 loss to the Chiefs’ AFC West rivals at Arrowhead. While he threw a touchdown to Justin Watson, Mahomes also tossed a pick-six on an errant pass intercepted by Jack Jones.

Kansas City eventually lost despite Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell completing zero passes in the final three quarters. Mahomes got the last laugh though, winning Super Bowl LXIII against the San Francisco 49ers at the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium.

The Raiders are also brave to be somewhat cocky with the puppet. Mahomes has a 10-2 record against the Raiders, dominating the division rivals over the course of his career.

Mahomes has thrown for 3,573 yards, 30 touchdowns, and four interceptions in his career against the Raiders, all while compiling a 109.6 passer rating. He will travel to Las Vegas in Week 8 to face the Raiders before the Chiefs host their rivals in Week 13.
