Las Vegas Housekeeper Accused of Stealing Over $100K From Hotel Rooms Arrested Wearing Guest’s Bracelet: Police

An allegedly sticky-fingered housekeeper at a Las Vegas Strip resort has been accused of stealing over $110,000 from hotel rooms and has been subsequently arrested—while she was wearing a bracelet belonging to a guest.

Knewz.com has learned that the housekeeper was also a suspect in a previous robbery that went down at the resort.

The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is one of the iconic five-star hotels of Sin City and has played host to an array of noted celebrities including Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake , and Courtney Love, the singer-songwriter and former spouse of grunge icon Kurt Cobain.

In June 2024, a guest at the Palazzo Tower of the resort reported that $8,000 had been taken from her room in a suspected burglary .

Hotel investigators identified housekeeper Maria Menendez Betancourt as a suspect in the burglary incident.

When the lock of the burglarized room was reviewed, police found that Betancourt had entered the guest’s room when she was not there.

Authorities also noted that Betancourt was not assigned to housekeeping duties on the floor of the burglarized room.

Later in June, hotel security detained the housekeeper and called the police with claims that she had stolen over $110,000 from a hotel guest.

The security further stated that surveillance footage showed Betancourt “entering multiple rooms on multiple floors” of the Las Vegas resort without a cleaning cart.

A hotel guest later reported $110,000 in cash and checks went missing from his room while he was away.

On the same day, Betancourt did not show up for work but was seen on surveillance video entering the property.

She allegedly used a key fob to get access to guest rooms once she got inside.

Police documents mentioned that the housekeeper “Menendez Betancourt discovered these items and concealed them in white bath towels [she] found in the room,” following which surveillance video – which was reviewed by the police – showed her leaving the room and the property.

Law enforcement authorities arrested Betancourt on June 18 and noted while taking her into custody that she was wearing a gold bracelet that she allegedly stole in a separate incident.

The housekeeper faces charges of theft and burglary in relation to several incidents at the Venetian Resort Las Vegas at the time of her June 18 arrest .

As of now, it is unclear exactly how many thefts she allegedly carried out at the resort, or whether the stolen items have been recovered.

However, as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department further investigated the charges against her, Betancourt was arrested once again on July 12, this time on additional charges.

All the cases against the housekeeper are currently pending at the Las Vegas Justice Court.

She has been released after she posted bond, although she has been asked to stay away from the Las Vegas Strip area as a condition of her release. It should be noted that while she has not yet entered a plea for three of the cases, she might face a jail sentence if the court convicts her.
