A Chicago Police officer is in the hospital after being struck by a stolen vehicle while attempting to stop the driver in the South Loop neighborhood Saturday night.

ABC 7 News reports that officers spotted a stolen Saturn Sedan at approximately 9 p.m. and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Grant Park. The vehicle fled but had to come to a halt due to traffic, and that's when officers exited their cars on foot, police said.

The driver of the stolen vehicle drove up on a curb and hit the 23-year-old officer in the 1200 block of South Michigan Avenue in South Loop. The officer sustained a leg injury and was transported to a hospital in stable condition. No one is in custody.

Stolen vehicles are showing up all over the city, damaged and some barely fixable. Recently, a Doordash driver became the victim of car theft while delivering an order in the Bucktown neighborhood.

WGN reports that Dogukan Tasti delivered the order on Wilmot Street when an offender got out of a parked vehicle, hopped in his Honda Accord, and drove off. Doorbell footage caught the incident.

The car was found on the West Side a day later with severe damage. Police officers said the carjacker must've crashed the vehicle and left it in the 700 block of North Cicero. To fix the damages would cost Tasti $10,000, and neither Doordash nor his insurance will help. He started a GoFundMe to help because Tasti said he did not have the money to fix it.
