An unarmed 13-year-old is in critical condition after being shot by a Chicago Police officer Wednesday night.

According to the Chicago Suntimes, the teen was a passenger in a Grey Sedan wanted for a carjacking in Oak Park the day prior, law enforcement sources said. The victim, a boy, was injured at approximately 10:15 pm. Officers pulled over the car, and he fled from the vehicle running in the 800 block of North Cicero in the Austin neighborhood, according to a police statement.

The 13-year-old was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical yet stable condition. Law enforcement sources said no shots were fired at police officers, and no weapon was recovered.

The Chicago Suntimes also reported that the driver of the vehicle got away. However, the car was found empty later in the 3800 block of West Monroe Street. According to suburban authorities, the vehicle was used in a carjacking in Oak Park. A male offender stole a vehicle with a 3-year-old still inside near Lake Street and Oak Park Avenue. The vehicle was eventually found abandoned, and the carjacker was seen getting into the Grey Sedan spotted by CPD Wednesday night.

A CPD squad car was damaged, and the officers involved will be placed on administrative duties.

Officers have been dealing with carjackings back to back in the city.

A Chicago Police Officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle involved in a fatal shooting in the Back of The Yards neighborhood two days ago. Four suspects shot and killed a 21-year-old man and crashed in the 1900 block of West 57th street. Three were captured, and the fourth carjacked a vehicle blocks away and hit an officer trying to stop him. The suspect was found later, and the officer is in good condition.
