    Resources for veterans in the city are vital to helping them live the lives they deserve.

    As the nation's heroes return from keeping the country as protected as possible, they face challenges such as limited housing and job opportunities.

    In Chicago, there were approximately 65,817 veterans living in the city between 2017-2021. During that time, 15.7% were homeless (2017), and although that number decreased to 11.9% in 2019, veterans still need access to resources.

    The Chicago Office of Veteran Affairs is committed to providing resources in various areas to veterans in the city who require help. From housing to entrepreneurship, employment, education, and legal assistance, the office is dedicated to helping those in need get on their feet. Here are five of those resources.

    Housing

    Chicago is committed to ensuring all veterans have a place to call home and that any forms of homelessness are rare, brief and non-recurring.

    Entrepreneurship

    Chicago is dedicated to ensuring through collaborative efforts that veterans have resources to help them start and grow small businesses. From creating a business plan to starting their first business, the goal is to see veterans succeed.

    Employment

    The Mayor's Office is committed to connecting veterans to employers and vice versa. They work with private and public partners to build employment networks across the city's sectors.

    Education

    Chicago offers accessible educational institutions, state agencies, and non-profit organizations working to improve access for service members, veterans and their families.

    Legal Assistance

    Chicago has several organizations dedicated to veterans seeking Civil/Criminal Justice services throughout the city.
