These classic horror movies were filmed in Chicago

As a child these two horror movies were a part of our childhood.

When you think of flashing cameras, celebrity viewings, and "showtime," it's not unusual to think of Hollywood. So many productions are filmed there that it's normal to assume that no other city comes close (in terms of perfect locations for film productions.)

However, the great city of Chicago, Illinois, has often received chances to gain bragging rights. Although it's not publicized often, more shows and movies are filmed here than you think. Minor and significant productions have chosen the Windy City as their projects' backdrops.

From '80s and '90s classics to projects of all genres, here are two horror movies filmed in the Chi.

1. Child's Play (1988)

Directors and producers loved to use Chicago for their horror pleasure. This classic talking doll movie features the Brewster apartments, used as the residence of characters Andy and Karen. While the in-studio portions of the movie were filmed in California, a vast amount of on-location parts were filmed in Chicago.

2. Candyman (1992)

In 1992, one of the most classic, bone-chilling horror films was released: Candyman. With Tony Todd as Candyman, horrified is not the word to describe what children felt after watching this film. It's centered around a graduate University of Chicago student learning about murders in the Cabrini Green projects. We've all learned not to say Candyman five times in front of a mirror.

Fun fact: This movie was initially supposed to be filmed in Liverpool, but the beauty of Chicago obviously made Clive Barker change his mind.
