FEMA authorizes funds to fight Texas fire in Latah and Nez Perce Counties
KENDRICK, Idaho — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to aid with the firefighting costs in Latah and Nez Perce Counties. The request for a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) was approved on July 16 around 9 p.m. by the FEMA Region 10 Administrator after he determined that the fire could constitute a major disaster if left without proper resources.
Fire leads to evacuation near Kendrick
KENDRICK — A wildfire that prompted an evacuation and sent a huge plume of smoke into the sky ignited Monday afternoon in Latah County near Kendrick. The Texas Fire grew to 150 acres east of Kendrick as of 7:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Idaho Department of Lands, although fire activity decreased some in the evening as temperatures cooled. The fire was at 0% containment as of 9:40 p.m., according to an updated news release from the department. The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
CEDA board elects new executive team
The Clearwater Economic Development Association (CEDA) has a new chair and vice-chair, elected by the organization’s board of directors at a recent board meeting. Trevor Sparrow, director of the Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy, based in Pierce, will serve as board chair. Eric Anderson, associate director of University of Idaho Career Services, steps in as vice-chair. They replaced Cari Miller of Zions Bank and Kathie LaFortune of Latah County, who served the past two years as chair and vice-chair, respectively.
