Steve Garcia made the most of his unexpected UFC on ESPN 60 co-main event opportunity. Originally scheduled for the main card, Garcia (16-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) vs. Seungwoo Choi (11-7 MMA, 4-6 UFC) slid into the co-headliner when Brad Tavares vs. Jun Yong Park was canceled after Friday’s weigh-ins. A little over 24 hours later, Garcia capitalized on the opportunity when he finished Choi with strikes at 1:36 of Round 1. The featherweight bout took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Knicks 90, Hawks 82: Despite slow start, the Summerbockers end Summer League with a third straight win
This evening, in their final appearance of the NBA Summer League, the New York Knicks (3-2) took on the Atlanta Hawks (0-5) at the COX Pavilion in Las Vegas. Atlanta, led by Dylan Windler and Keaton Wallace, took an early 20-9 lead, but New York finished the first quarter on a 9-1 run. By halftime, New York led 43-38, thanks to Rokas Jokubaitis contributing seven points and four assists in the second quarter. New York continued their dominance through the third frame, and when the Hawks made a late push, backups Obadiah Noel, Sam Cele, and Alan Griffin performed admirably to close out the game. Final score: 90-82.
