    Lawan Jones (Broward Sheriff’s Office).

A young man is accused of shooting his girlfriend’s father in an argument over “inappropriate” social media posts. Deputies in Broward County, Florida , claim that Lawan Jones, 18, fled the scene with the victim’s daughter, but he later surrendered, and the girlfriend is safe.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded on Monday at approximately 4:44 p.m. to a shooting call near the 1500 block of Northeast 28th Street. They found the victim, Keith Bryan Poole, 44, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

“On scene, emergency crews located the victim, Poole, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” they said. “Paramedics transported Poole to Broward Health North, where he was later pronounced deceased.”

Investigators allege that this stemmed over Jones allegedly writing social media posts that Poole disliked. They did not detail the nature of these posts or explain how the argument allegedly escalated to murder.

“According to witnesses, the shooting began after Poole became aware of social media posts made by Jones that he thought were inappropriate,” deputies said. “At some point, witnesses said, Jones started arguing with Poole and shot him.”

Before identifying Jones, deputies had written, “According to witnesses, Poole was standing outside of his residence when a subject known to him began shooting. Detectives say the shooter fled the scene following the incident. BSO Crime Scene and Homicide Unit detectives responded and are currently investigating the fatal shooting.”

Jones fled from the scene with his girlfriend, and deputies searched, though Jones ultimately turned himself in to authorities in Wednesday. He currently sits at the Broward County jail on no bond for a count of first-degree murder with a firearm.

Law&Crime reached out to deputies for the probable cause affidavit. Court records do not indicate any defense lawyer or upcoming hearings.
