A now former NYPD officer from Staten Island who, while off-duty in 2021 and armed with her police-issued pistol weeks after a break-up, waited in her ex-girfriend’s Brooklyn apartment until she came home and shot the surviving victim’s new love interest to death was sentenced Wednesday to spend 27 years in prison.

Yvonne Wu, now 34, was sentenced in Kings County to 22 years of the state incarceration for first-degree manslaughter in the Oct. 13, 2021, love triangle slaying of 24-year-old Jamie Liang, a dental student at NYU, plus five years for attempting to murder her ex Jenny Li, according to the New York Attorney General’s Office.

After Wu pleaded guilty in June , it was clear that the nearly 30-year sentence was what she would receive the case.

Reporting from the immediate aftermath of what was dubbed a love triangle shooting on the local news said that Wu “confessed” in a “calm, collected” way that she was the perpetrator.

Cellphone video showed that Wu was placed under arrest in broad daylight outside of her ex’s 19th Avenue residence, where Liang was shot in the chest and Li in the torso that fateful afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Wu, who at the time of the shooting had worked as an NYPD officer for five and a half years, was called a “psychopath” and “possessive” stalker by a friend of Li’s who spoke with the New York Daily News . The defendant had been dumped one month earlier and reacted to the break-up by showing up at Li’s home and waiting in the bedroom for the victims to come home, the friend reportedly said.

“I told you not to mess with me” and “that’s what you get,” Wu yelled, as her wounded ex-girlfriend, then 23, called 911 from the scene where Li was fatally shot.

A GoFundMe campaign from years ago said that Liang was a dental student at NYU with a “bright future ahead.”

“She was loved by so many and filled every room with her kindness and lively spirit,” a post on the campaign said.

In an interview with local ABC affiliate WABC , Liang’s father said his daughter “loved life, she got a big heart, [and] she loved everyone.”

“She always wanted to make me proud, and I’m always proud of her,” Ying Ling reportedly said. “Jamie, ever since she was a baby, she was so good. I never had to worry about her.”
