A North Carolina two-year-old boy has tragically died after falling into a swimming pool during Independence Day weekend.

Wyatt Gordon , born to parents Anne Marie and Zach Gordon, suffered a brain injury after he accidentally fell into the pool on July 4. He was rescued and quickly taken to the hospital.

The family confirmed that Wyatt underwent his second EEG at 8pm on July 6, but unfortunately, the first one did not have "good results". The third EEG was scheduled for 8am the following day (July 7).

The boy's family was desperate for a "miracle" after the accident. In a GoFundMe page set up to help Wyatt's parents pay his medical bills, the two-year-old's uncle, Michael Pendleton, wrote: "His accident has affected a lot of lives and families. Right now, Wyatt is on a ventilator. His prognosis is poor and we are relying on a miracle at this point."

In an update on Wyatt's condition, Michael later added: "The first eeg did not have good results. We are hoping to see some brain activity on the next two. Payers are needed more than ever right now." But Wyatt's parents "worst nightmare" came true when he tragically succumbed to his injuries and passed away on July 7.

Sharing the sad news, Michael wrote: "On July 7th Wyatt Gordan unfortunately passed away from his injuries. Please keep his parents, Anne Marie and Zach in your thoughts. This is a parents absolute worst nightmare."

Wyatt's parents also have a one-year-old daughter and are currently expecting their third child. His dad Zach is a firefighter in Waco, North Carolina, which is southwest of Cherryville. The Waco Fire Department is hosting a BBQ Friday in Wyatt's honor while the Charlotte Fire Department and the Fallston Community Volunteer Department are partnering with them to help put on the event.

The First Methodist Church of Lawndale, attended by the Gordons, opened Sunday morning by sharing the tragic news. “We have just received the news [that] little Wyatt Gordon has passed away," the pastor announced during the service.

"I don't know what else to say. We are going to God in prayer. You see the unfortunate circumstance in the fragility of our church. Lord, God, we are not sure of what to say or do. We ask you to comfort us in this time.”

People from across the state have been donating money and sending kind words to the family ever since they shared the unfortunate news. Michael shared his sorrow with WCNC, discussing the heartbreaking loss of the young boy.

"Wyatt was a bright-eyed, very smart and outgoing two-year-old," Michael shared. "He loved life and everybody. With his passing, he left a big hole in the community." The GoFundMe campaign for the grieving parents has already raised more than $20,000 of $25,000 target within three days of its launch.
