This offseason, the Kansas Jayhawks made a key addition through the Transfer Portal when they added shooting guard AJ Storr from the Wisconsin Badgers .

At one point, however, it didn’t seem like Storr would be transferring as he tested the NBA Draft waters. It was a difficult decision for him but one that he broke down and explained how close he came to staying in the draft instead of going to Kansas.

“I was pretty close,” AJ Storr said . “Had some talks with my family. Talked it over and then decided that KU was the best place to come.”

AJ Storr added that he believes winning at Kansas is something that could help him for the NBA Draft in the future, especially if he can be a key piece of that success.

Coming out of Bishop Gorman High School, AJ Storr was a four-star recruit and the 103rd-ranked player nationally in the 2022 cycle , according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He went to St. John’s initially, before transferring to Wisconsin and now Kansas.

Between his stops at St. John’s and Wisconsin, Storr played in 69 games and got 53 starts while averaging 25.1 minutes per game. That includes starting all 36 games in 2023-24 for Wisconsin. Over the course of his career, he’s averaging 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. He’s also shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three-point range.

At Kansas, the hope is that Storr is going to be able to add an offensive spark that helps the Jayhawks bounce back from a season where they weren’t able to win the Big 12 in the regular season or conference tournament. He’ll also be hoping to help Kansas get past the Round of 32, which Kansas hasn’t been able to get through for the past two seasons.

AJ Storr cites history as main factor in choosing Kansas

There were a few different things pulling AJ Storr to Kansas, with the program’s place in college basketball history being one of the most important facts in his transfer decision.

“Really, just the history of KU. You know, it speaks for itself,” he added. “I think six national championships, Coach Self got two of them himself. Really, just the history of it speaks for itself,” Storr said .

“You know that he’s going to get the best out of you. You know he’s going to challenge you. He’s going to always motivate you and push you to be the best version of yourself.”
