Suspect arrested after Lawrence police find man covered in blood

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WDAF) – The Lawrence Police Department is investigating after a man came out of the woods covered in blood near Burcham Park on Monday night.

Police said around 11 p.m., officers were sent to Indiana Street after someone reported hearing gunshots.

Officers said they initially talked to three uninjured people who said they had no information about the incident. Other officers looked through the area for additional evidence.

Once LPD found the victim, they learned he was not shot. The victim said he had been attacked and had open wounds on his head and back.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, and police said he “will be ok.”

According to LPD, the investigation and evidence led them back to one of the men they originally approached. Officers arrested one of them, but they believe two men were involved.

Officers are still looking for the other suspect as the investigation continues.
