Three fire departments fight Paw Paw Tuesday morning blaze
The Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire, Tuesday morning, July 2, at KPEP, 38266 West Red Arrow Highway, Paw Paw. Arriving at the scene at approximately 9 a.m., fire department members found heavy smoke coming from the rooftop and one apartment totally engulfed in flames. At press time, it was unknown what caused the fire and if there were any injuries. Lawton and Lawrence fire departments responded to the scene with mutual aid while the Mattawan Fire District was stationed at the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department building. KPEP has been operating this 28-bed transitional housing facility since February of 2020.
Dowagiac man charged in two incidents involving drugs, guns
It’s prison time for a Dowagiac man charged in two separate incidents involving drugs and guns. 55-year-old Mark Hall plead guilty to possession of meth, possession of ammunition by a felon and maintaining a drug house, all as a habitual offender, in a case from May of last year where a search warrant of his home turned up drug paraphernalia, a shotgun, baggies, meth and $2,700 in cash.
Rawson convicted of first degree murder in Pullman
James Edward Rawson was convicted on June 26 of first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife’s son in 2022. Rawson was found guilty of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The trial began June 18 in Allegan County’s 48th Circuit Court.
