Before-and-after satellite imagery of Mankato and other parts of southern Minnesota show swollen rivers and green areas swallowed by murky brown water. The photos, provided by the satellite image company Planet Labs, lay plain the extent of Minnesota’s flooding this month, which has covered roads, parks, farm fields and, nearly collapsed the Rapidan Dam.

Highways 169 and 40 reopen in southern Minnesota flood zone
(Mankato, MN) -- State transportation officials say some roadways closed by flooding in southern Minnesota are back open. MnDOT says Highway 169 reopened from Mankato to St. Peter, and Highway 60 near Windom opened to traffic Thursday with one lane in each direction. Highway 169 in St. Peter is open, with traffic shifted head-to-head onto the southbound lanes, but the northbound lanes are still underwater. Crews continue to monitor flooded highways and bridges and will open them as soon as it is safe to do so.
Area communities to celebrate July 4
New Prague and other area communities will observe the July 4th holiday in many ways, celebrations including fireworks, parades, music and boat parades. New Prague The evening of Wednesday, July 3, will be the New Prague Fireworks Show. Events will be held east of the New Prague Middle School, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be Kona Ice, Dawgs on the Run, face painting and free massages. The national anthem will be sung by Linda Fahrenkamp with the fireworks beginning 10:10 p.m.
New Flood Update And Restrictions at Minnesota’s Valleyfair
Rain, rain, please...for the love of all things, just go away. This past week has been brutal for numerous cities in Iowa as well as Mankato, Waterville, and Spring Valley in Minnesota. And the videos of the Rapidan Dam being breached and causing buildings to crumble into the water are absolutely heartbreaking. Valleyfair in Minnesota even had to temporarily close a few popular rides due to flooding at their location. The Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to closely monitor state highways in south central and the southwest corner of Minnesota due to flooding caused by recent heavy rains.
