Big Rapids approves bid for street resurfacing project
BIG RAPIDS — The Big rapids city commission approved a resolution awarding a bid for the resurfacing of three streets during its meeting July 15. Bids were solicited for the resurfacing of Waterloo, South Stewart and North Fourth Avenue. The bid was awarded to Rieth-Riley Construction in the amount of $241,315.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Library millage renewal crucial for Reed City services
I hope that all registered voters in the city of Reed City, Richmond Township, and Lincoln Township are aware that the millage for the Reed City Area District Library is expiring. The Board of Directors has placed a millage renewal on the Aug. 6 primary ballot. The Board is not asking for an increase, and this funding is critical. Without this revenue, the library may very well be forced to close.

David B. Wilson, age 61 of Evart, formerly of Warren, passed away unexpectedly at home, on May 16, 2024. He was born in Warren, MI, on November 8, 1962, to Ronald and Frances (Puzio) Wilson. Manton to host Hometown Heroes veterans event in August
MANTON — The Manton community will soon be showing their appreciation for those who served our country. Next month, several community organizations in Manton will be hosting their first ever Hometown Heroes Day at Manton Rotary Park. Organizers say it’s a great chance for vets to share comradery, show their military pride and have a chance to visit the Manton Veterans Memorial Museum. They do have one special request for those who attend: “We encourage people to wear something from their unit. Like a hat or a patch or something, so you can be distinguished by what unit you were in,” said Manton Chamber of Commerce Vice President Shelly Emery.
Falmouth Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting Woman with Axe in Northern Michigan
A Northern Michigan incident has resulted in the arrest of a 52-year-old Falmouth man after he allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened her life with an axe. WWJ Newsradio reported that last Friday night, Michigan State Police responded to a distress call around 11:30 p.m. from a woman, who after fleeing to a local church in Aetna Township, claimed she had been physically attacked by the suspect following a heated argument.
