Le Sueur-Henderson Senior Legion survives defensive showdown to advance in subsection tournament

This past Saturday, the Le Sueur-Henderson Senior Legion team took a trip up to Watertown for the beginning of the Sub-State playoffs. They faced a good Norwood team that they beat on July 10, 2-1 in Le Sueur.

This game didn’t light up the scoreboard either as Logan Feeney started on the mound for post 74/55, throwing five and two-thirds innings of work while recording 12 strikeouts and only giving up two hits. The game, to say the least, was a low scoring affair.

Ben Schefers pitched all six of innings for Norwood. LS-H got its first hit in the second when Braylon Hoffman got a soft ground ball single, but his teammates was unable to advance him. Feeney got a hit in the fourth but was picked off by Schefers at first base.

With Feeney reaching the total pitch count for the day (105 max) with 108 pitches he was pulled for Brody Berndt to come in and continue the shutout. Then, with the game 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth, LS-H finally got a break.

Things lead off with Colton Wilson hitting a single to right before he advanced to second after a mistake by the Norwood infield. Hathaway then hit a ball hard to right field for a line drive base hit that got past the right fielder. Wilson was able to score easily and Hathaway was able to get to third.

After a failed suicide squeeze with Hathaway getting picked off, the Legion team went to the top of the seventh with a 1-0 lead. Berndt would give up a hit with one out but that was all the damage Norwood could muster in the inning. With the win LS-H continues in the winners bracket playing Watertown on Friday, July 26 at 11:30 a.m.
